How can I tell if my dog truly enjoys our couch time together?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is obvious how much you love Gabby and I suspect she loves you very much too! Most dogs are very bonded to their owners-especially dogs who have been cared for by the same person for years. There may be a reason that she does not want to stay with you in bed. Where does she go? Does she go straight to tile or wood because the bed is just too warm (my own dog started doing this recently). Do you toss and turn and it bothers Gabby? Does a fan blow on her? Is there a new candle or scent in your room? All these things may be reasons Gabby decides to lay down elsewhere. As with most dogs, you can strengthen your bond by petting and sitting together (try laying with her wherever she likes to lay for a few minutes). It could be that the walks aren't actually long enough to get out all of Daisy's energy (some high energy breeds may need to be out for an hour or more!) or that she is associating the couch with playtime. Working on some tricks such as "Settle" and other calming behaviors such as giving a chew toy or chew treat to distract her when it's time to relax can help teach her that couch time = relaxing time. Increasing her activity to more or longer walks in the day can also help with any pent up energy.

How cute! Some dogs just love the texture and warmth of certain things over others. Just like we probably have our favorite pair of jeans and favorite blanket they can have favorite toys and beds as well. Plus if it is blanket you use often it has your scent on it. Also, he is likely excited that he gets to cuddle with you. :)

There are many reason why our pets rub themselves along the furniture. You might think of this as a sign of affection. Your dog may be pressing his scent or marking his territory. This is usually a comforting type of behavior for our pets. You might consider adding an addition 30 minute walk into your pets daily exercise plan. This may help to relax your pet some. To rule out any medical cause, you'll want to visit your local Vet and have him/her examine your pet for any signs of irritation or infection. These may include redness of the gums or any inflammation in the ears. If your pet is experiencing any of these signs your doctor may request a dental cleaning and ear cleaning along with medications to treat the underlying cause of infection. Both are very important.

It sounds like Kobi loves attention! If you aren't interested in cuddling, try a treat toy or puzzle that he can work on. You can also do obedience training and have him learn to stay in one place when you are on the phone. He may just desire your attention or need more exercise.

You may have inadvertently trained Marley to be such a cuddler - he obviously feels most secure when he's close to you. If you dont like this, you'll have to spend time training him to sleep and rest in his own bed. This is not an overnight process, but is best done with food and verbal rewards. When he is in his bed, toss him small training treats. You can also move his food bowl to be closer to his bed. If he sleeps in bed with you, have his bed on the floor and give him praise when he goes in it. I am a big fan of the ADAPTIL products - such as the pheromone collar and Plug in unit - they will help him feel more comfortable away from you.

Jumping on and off the couch has little chance of hurting the joints on a lean, healthy dog. The best thing you can do to prevent joint issues is to keep him at an ideal body weight. Ideally one hour a day of walking, running or agility. If you do that, then you really have little to worry about if he jumps up and down from small heights like a couch.

Congratulations on your new addition. The pacing your are describing sounds like Coco just doesn't know where to go or what to do when you don't let her jump on the couch with you. Anytime we tell a dog what not to do, we also need to tell them what to do. So, I would teach Coco a command like "Go to your bed." and direct her to a dog bed next to the couch.
