My dog vomited chunky food and is lethargic. Did he eat chicken bones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 56 lbs

My dog has vomited very large amounts three times in a row today. He doesn’t seem as active as before but he does not vomit frequently. The vomit seems like all his usual food just came out, looking a bit ivory/yellow overall. The vomit was not liquidy, it was more like big chunks of his usual food. I am guessing the cause is him eating cooked chicken bones by accident two days ago, but we’re not absolutely sure if that’s the reason. We just wanted to do some research before we contact our vet!

It sounds as Louie is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
