My cat was dumped 15 miles away. Will she ever find her way home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

My landlord dumped my cat 15mi from my house on 1-4-18. I found out and have been searching for her daily ever since. I have used flyers, posters, craigslist, paper, facebook, searching on foot and checking shelters daily. The area he dumped her is a lower class community with a large amount of dogs that roam freely. Why can't I find her? Should I give up it's been 35 days? Will she find her way home?

I am sorry this happened to you. Most cats that are outside tend to roam about a 2 mile radius of their house to get back to their territory. So the chances of her getting back home at that distance is decreased. You have done all you can. All you can do is wait and see if someone spots her and keep checking the shelters. Make sure you actually go to the shelters as they are busy and have lots of volunteers that make mistakes on the phone about descriptions and what has been coming in.
