My 4-month-old cat's paw is swollen and painful. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 7 days old

My 4month old cat was playing outside and when he came in seemed to be fine. Over the course of three days his front paw has swelled to almost 3 times in size. He will not move because it hurts him to get up and use it. I cant see any signs of physically injury or cuts but im very worried. nearest vet is an hour away and if there is something I can do before spending $200 I will try

I would recommend taking Breaker to a veterinarian especially if his foot has become so swollen. There could be some infection or just inflammation underneath the skin and he may need an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic even if you do not see a wound. He will also feel much better with medication. I hope Breaker feels better soon and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
