My dog is having multiple seizures. What should I do right now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 68 lbs

We recently got olaf, who started twitching in his sleep. earlier he had a seizure and we rushed him to the vet were he had another seizure in the car. we got blood work done and there were no major issues but we were told to keep an eye on him. he is having more seizures tonight, there is nowhere for us to go right now and nothing we can do till the morning and I was wondering if there was anything that we could do or if it could be food related since he switched foods when we adopted him

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Olaf! The food change is very unlikely to be the cause of his seizures. The most likely cause is epilepsy. If Olaf is having 2-3 or more seizures in a 24 hour period (clustering) that is an emergency and he should be hospitalized and started on anti-seizure medication. If there isn't a 24 hour emergency hospital in your area then you need to have him see first thing in the morning when your vet opens. I hope this helps and I wish Olaf the very best!
