Will my Husky get depressed sleeping outside or sick from rain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old

Hi I have a Siberian Husky. He’s 1 yr and he has always slept inside, until I finally got him a big, well-made dog house and now it’s his 3rd night sleeping outside. I was sad, but more worried about him becoming depressed or feeling unloved. Will he? He does cry a little sometimes, but then he’s okay. He has fence. Also,he has really good shelter plus a roof right outside his big house, but it rains and he only goes inside his house if it’s hard rain or cold outside. Can he get sick getting wet

This is a big change for Rocco! He need time to adapt. I would suggest to let him inside till you go to bed so he doesn't see you awake within the house and doesn't get stressed because cannot interact with you or your family members. Sometimes they do not like to sleep in the brand new house, they just don't understand what changed compared to before. Add some toys and treats to make the new recovery even more comfy. He will develop a thick hair coat and, as he is a Siberian Husky, I wouldn't worry for the cold weather. Please post again on the forum or request a consultation if you would like discuss it further. I hope this answer was helpful.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He won't get sick by getting wet. Just be sure the dog house is well insulated for the cold weather. A lot of dogs live outside and if this is something that you want for him he will be fine. Just be sure you walk him and play with him to provide human contact and mental stimulation. Exercise and love is important. Also if he is going to be an outside dog keep his vaccines up to date, get him neutered, have him on flea/tick and heart worm prevention and he should be dewormed regularly. I hope this helps!
