My dog has a hard, hairless bump on her head that hurts. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 1 month old | 18 lbs

My dog has a pea size hard bump on her head. That's the only part that has no hair, and seems to bother her when I touch it. Is it something I should be concerned about?

I wouldn't be too worried about this. It appears to be localized to the skin and has benign properties, so it's likely a cyst or benign tumor. It's always possible that this is something more serious though. For now, you are safe to just monitor it. If it grows, changes color, starts to bleed, or changes shape, then it would be best to have a vet examine it and possibly do some testing. For more information, I recommend you read the short article at the following link: https://www.petcoach.co/article/lumps-on-dogs-when-you-should-be-concerned/ I hope that helps and all is well with Roxy.
