My dog won't stop eating food from the table. How can I train him?

My dog (a beagle) is Constantly getting to the table and eating food. We often send him to his kennel or hold his snout, point to the table, and say no. But, I have heard you should not do that and he never listens anyway. So, what should I do? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old

Startle him in the act. Set up cans filled with loud objects precariously positioned so when he jumps up it all crashes around and startled him. Set this up time and time again. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
