My dog is licking pyometra discharge. Is it safe to allow her?

Is it okay for my dog to lick & clean the discharge from her Pyometra or should I prevent her from doing so?

It's usually not harmful to their stomachs, but is filled with bacteria, so has the potential to cause issues in the GI tract. It's best to keep her from licking it, but that would require her to wear an E-collar (aka the cone of shame). I hope that helps and she gets better soon.

    If she has a pyometra she needs to see a vet. This will not resolve without treatment. It is not great that she is licking the discharge as it is an infection but I don't think it will necessarily hurt her. Please try to get her to a vet for an exam as soon as you can. Best wishes.
