Why is my neutered cat's belly flabby? Is it normal after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 10 lbs

My male cat of almost 2yrs old has been neutered like a year ago, a few months after I noticed his belly grew a little bit like flappy, there’s no ball or mass inside for me to be worried but is it normal after the surgery for the lower belly to grow ?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely the normal fat pad on the belly of cats. It is just extra skin and fat. Almost every cat has this and it tends to occur after being spayed or neutered. I hope this helps!
