My dog is vomiting, lethargic, and has bloody stool. Is it my virus?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 2 months old | 70 lbs

Dog is vomiting and has a brown red discharge from anus. Also lethargic, licking herself. 8 years old lab, has been vomiting for 3 days, lost appetite. Drinking ok, but often vomit afterwards as well. We had a virus that got every family member, all 4 of us were vomiting and had diarrhea last week. Could it be that our dog got it from us? Or is it something else?

Your dog did not get it from you. It sounds as Bella is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
