My dog has a large, growing black bump on her back. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 54 lbs

My dog has had a large black bump on her rear back for quite some time now; they let us know it was puppy acne but she’s older and it seems to be growing. The skin is black in some places and normal in others with the skin looking shruken, like when your fingers are in water too long.

You really need to have your vet exam this mass. That is not acne; it is a tumor. A biopsy of it needs to be done to find out what type of tumor this is (type and whether it is malignant or benign). It looks very irregular and I would be extremely concerned if this mass was on my dog. Please get Eevee to your vet for an exam as soon as you can get an appointment scheduled.
