Why does my cat drool when excited by catnip, but my other cat doesn't?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 13 lbs

Our cat smelled these catnip stick and started biting it, rolling all over it and drooling. Is the latter also a sign of excitment? Because our other cat acted the same but didn't drool

Drooling is a very common signs of excitement in cats. Why some cats do it and some cats don't isn't clear to us. (Just like some dogs drool when excited for food and some don't.) It sounds like you have a great new toy for your cats! I hope that was helpful and answered your question. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
