My dog's jaw clicks after an injury. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 70 lbs

Hey. I was deadlifting weights a food weeks ago and my dog walked up, and I got her square in the jaw with my weights handle. She's been clicking her teeth randomly ever since. She's very calm and chill when she does it so its not excitement. She is 1 and a half years old and is a Pitsky (pitbull husky x). she doesn't seem to be in any obvious pain either?

Poor Roxi! Chattering or clicking the teeth together without any obvious behavioral reason is usually caused by a dental problem, or a problem with the temporomandibular joint of the jaw. She may have injured herself when she hit her jaw against your weight, unfortunately. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam when you are able to. He/she can do a complete oral exam under sedation to check for any fractured or damaged teeth, and may also recommend x-rays of her skull to evaluate the jaw joint for any problems.
