What causes a growing, non-itchy bald spot on my dog's head?

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 82 lbs

Hello. I am concerned about this bald spot on top of my dogs head that has been there for awhile, but as of lately it has been getting a little bigger. It is not irritated looked and it does not seem to bother him.

If there was supposed to be a picture attached to this question I apologized but it isn’t here. Bald spots can be caused by numerous issues, but a very common mite called Demodex is probably one of the most common causes. Low thyroid function can also cause hair loss. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Adult dogs who have demodex often have other problems making their immune system less robust.     A number of things could cause this including: Demodexx mites, allergies or even a bacterial or fungal infection. O would recommend by starting with a skin impression and skin scrape done by your vet to help narrow down these possibilities and hopefully come up with a proper diagnosis. Once we know the cause then the proper treatment can be started. I hope this helps and best of luck at the vet getting these tests done and Jasmine started on treatment. Best wishes and take care.
