My dog is not acting herself and barely moving. Is it the ivermectin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | 10 years and 6 months old | 29 lbs

Hi.My beagle has not been acting herself today. She only ate one milkbone dog treat (which is not out of the ordinary for her because she is a finicky eater & sometimes won't eat for a day but will eat the next day). However she usually is walking & running all around but today she either just stands in one spot, takes a few steps, sits in one place, or goes in her crate & sits.Just 3 days ago she & her sister took their monthly ivermectin chewable.I'm not sure if it is a possible side effect

If Heidi has had that ivermectin chewable before without any side effects, then I would doubt that her signs are related to that. One of the most common reasons that a dog will be more reluctant to move or slower to move is pain somewhere. That could be in her neck, her back, her abdomen or elsewhere. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Heidi to see if they can determine what is going on with her and what to do about it. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Heidi feels better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
