My dog just had puppies. Is heavy bleeding, raw mouth, and bad breath normal?

Princess just had puppies. She's usually thin. She had seven puppies, one died. She's extremely thirsty and eating just fine. She's passing large clots and her mouth looks raw and her breath is horrible. Is it from cleaning her puppies? And what about the large dark in color cloths?

Thank you for your question. I'm not sure how long ago Princess had her puppies. It is normal to pass some blood for a few days. If it goes beyond this time, or if she becomes lethargic, or stops eating/drinking, then seek veterinary care. What you are seeing in the mouth and her breath could be from cleaning the puppies, but be sure to check over the next few days to make sure it isn't getting any worse. Make sure she has access to plenty of water and food that is high enough in calories for nursing.
