Can CBD oil help my senior dog's appetite and pain with kidney failure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 13 years and 11 months old | 5.4 lbs

Hi. My senior dog has been in heart failure for Almost 5 years (on Fortekor and Furosemide). He's now been diagnosed with kidney failure. His appetite is extremely low and he's lost weight. He's taking pepcid as perscribed from his vet, but it doesn't seem to help his appetite. I am wondering if there would be any benefit from CBD Oil to help his appetite and possible digestive pain. Thanks!

Unfortunately we do not have any studies in dogs with CBD to know if it improves nausea or appetite, but anecdotal reports from owners report that some dogs do seem to eat better on it. I am unsure what products you can get in Canada, but I have had a number of clients use Treatibles and been pleased with the company. They have a liquid and treat products. https://www.treatibles.com/ Good luck! Thanks for using PetCoach.
