Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Male | neutered | 7 years and 7 months old | 60 lbs
My husband loves our two dogs, and he has done an excellent job training them. They are obedient and mellow. However, I think that my husband is being too controlling with them quite often. For example, sometimes they are just being playful and happy, and he tells them to stop and go to their beds. I really feel that there should be some balance. Any ideas how I can help him become more easy going with our doggies? We are starting to have tension over this on a daily basis! Thank you!

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Finding the balance between discipline and play can be a tough line for couples. While you wonder how to make him more easy going with the pets, he is probably wondering how to make you more strict. Unfortunately, this sounds more like a marital question than a veterinary question. I think you and your husband need to have a conversation about your expectations with the dogs, and perhaps set up some rules you can both abide. You need to agree on whether playtime is only outside, and when inside they need to be calm or they need to be on their beds. Or are they allowed to play in the house, but only at certain times. Every household is different. Some people are happy to have the dogs being crazy and playful whenever they want, and some people want it quiet and peaceful in the house. Neither are wrong, it just has to be decided so that everyone understands the expectations. I hope your family can come to an agreement that everyone can live with. Good luck!
