My dog is leaking after pyometra surgery. Is a second surgery needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old | 65.5 lbs

My vet diagnosed my 3 year old husky Timberwolf mix with pyometra and suggested surgery , we did the surgery and now a little more than two months later she is still leaking gross sludgy stuff out and the vet wants to go back in and surgery again ? She’s on the strongest antibiotics before and after her surgery , I’m scared for her - now she has had one litter of 4 pups with my 4 yr old Rottweiler and seemed fine after that and that was about a year and a half ago , been struggling with this now

She is probably suffering from a stump pyometra, it is not very common but it can happen, it could also be due to a bad reaction to the suture material (internal). i think your vet is probably right on this one, i would also recommend to do an additional surgery in order to repair this condition. she is young, you do not have to worry about the surgery too much.
