My dog's fur is staticky. I used a dryer sheet. Is it toxic or safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Coton de Tulear | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 8 lbs

My 8lb Coton de Tulear’s (4 y/o) coat was very staticky, so I rubbed him down with a dryer sheet. I then read online that dryer sheets can be dangerous to dogs, but obviously didn’t realize this before I did it. What should I do now? Should I bathe him, or will he be okay? He is acting fine. Thanks!

Dryer sheets can be toxic if ingested, but are not terribly toxic when rubbed on the hair/skin. It may cause some irritation though and could cause some issues if licked, so it's best to just rinse him really well with water. After that, I would not worry about any problems occurring. I hope that helps and all is well with Bentley.
