My adopted puppy won't eat food, only treats. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

My family just adopted a new puppy from the shelter. She’s about 6 months, and she doesn’t want to eat her food. We’ve tried giving her dry food, wet food, and a mix of both, and she still won’t eat. She’ll eat her treats, but not her food.

Just give her some time and stop giving her treats, she will eventually start eating her dry/wet food when she is hungry enough. in the first few days in a new house it is not uncommon for a dog to stop eating or to eat very little.
