Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 16 days old | 18 lbs

My puppy has lost his appetite and is throwing up about once every other day. He never had much of an appetite, but now he doesn't eat until he's starving.

I am very sorry to hear that Tye is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. I would believe the most likely cause in a lung dog like Tye is gastrointestinal worms or a gastrointestinal infection. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor Tye at home. Here is what you can do for him over the next 24 hours; Rest Tye’s gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. This will tempt him to eat while also being healthy for gut recovery. You can also purchase Hill’s I/D from a veterinarian, which is a premade food which will have the same effect. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhoea if he is experiencing any of that. In the longer term I would also advise switching his dog food brand, in case he is not doing well because of his current food. Perhaps we can discuss this after he has recovered from his current illness. You can post a separate question for free on the forum and feel free to use my name so I can personally help you further. (Dr. Macartney) If Tye does not improve in the next 24 hours, has profuse vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Tye seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian immediately.
