My dog's pee is red-brown after chemo. Is it blood or side effect?

My dog has prostate cancer. He is getting chemo therapy threw IV every 3 weeks. Yesterday he had a treatment. He recently started wearing a diaper and today I see his pee is discored... kinda a brown washed out red... is that the chemo? I know his pee is toxic for 72 hrs... but I've never seen the toxic pee up close so I'm worried is it blood or chemo in his pee?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Brown or red color urine is not expected from any of the commonly used chemotherapeutics in dogs. Dogs with prostatic tumors can develop secondary infections and sometimes actually have bleeding episodes. I recommend that you discuss with your oncologist submitting his urine for a urinalysis/urine culture to rule out a urinary tract infection, especially if that matches the rest of his clinical signs of present. Good luck and have a great day!
