Will neutering my aggressive unneutered pitbull stop dog fights?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 105 lbs

I have 2 male pitbulls, father & son. They are 7 & 3 yrs old. Dad is fixed son is not. Son has recently become more aggressive they got into 2 pretty bad fights within days of each other so we keep them separated now. I have a appt to fix the son but I'm not sure if this will help.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That should definitely help. Often times a few to several weeks after a castration their behavior changes dramatically in terms of less aggression. However, this may not resolve the issue. If it does not, I would highly recommend you seek help from a veterinary behaviorist or dog trainer who can help you in person as those issues do require some hands on training but they are fixable most of the time. Good luck and have a great day!
