Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 5 years old | 9 lbs
Since having my 5 yo male Chihuahua neutered, he is constantly acting like he's in serious pain near his anus, and acts though he's trying to run away from his pain. He acts utterly terrified?? His surgery was done about six mo. ago. Plz help!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to anal gland issues such as anal gland infection or impaction. Other possibilities are certainly possible. I recommend that you have Cletus evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to treat him based on examination findings. Good luck!

Hello. It would be very unusual to have rectal pain following a neuter surgery. If your veterinarian is sure there are no anal gland issues, & his prostate feels normal, then my next step would be an x-ray to rule out any skeletal abnormalities in his lower back/tail area & pass a urinary catheter to rule out a blockage/narrowing of the urethra & collect a urine sample. Perhaps this will shed some information as to why Cletus has been so uncomfortable. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
