Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 25 lbs
Hello. My three your old beagle was walking upstairs today and suddenly yelped in pain. Since then he yelps when trying to jump up on the couch and will not do the stairs. He also yelped on the leash when he got excited by another dog and pulled. We examined his legs and see no apparent issues. After he yelps he shakes for several minutes. He’s only about 25 pounds and is an active guy. He seems to be walking okay and without a limp. Any idea as to what could be going on and what we can do ?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly neck or back pain. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Teddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Teddy feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Good luck and have a good night!
