My puppy died. Should I be concerned about the rest of the litter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Female | unspayed

My cocker spaniel gave birth to her second litter of seven puppies on 25th January but on the 27th one of them died. There didn’t seem to be any symptoms except I think it was thinner than the others when it was born and it didn’t seem ill on the day it died. The rest of the puppies are thriving and feeding and are now a week old but should I have any concerns about them?

Wow puppies look happy and healthy. I would not worry if they are growing well, feeding and do not show any other signs. The puppy most likely was affected by the fading puppy syndrome, there should be no reason for the others to have the same condition . Sadly it was just something he was predisposed to.
