Why does my cat's fur split in half under her neck? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 11 lbs

Sometimes, my cat's fur splits exactly in half right under her neck (as shown in photo). I tried brushing her but it continues to happen. This may be a silly question, but is this normal?

Wow! Nala is beautiful and very photogenic! I would suspect that Nala has a natural "part" in her fur there (like humans can have a natural part where their hair falls). It is just in a very obvious location, so it is more noticeable than if she were to have it in another location. I suspect it will remain the same throughout her life, so just enjoy her unique part.
