Can Neosporin interfere with my puppy's mange dip treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 6 days old | 35 lbs

My puppy has demodectric (sp?) mange and recently had his first dip treatment at the vet. When I took him home he started severely itching and breaking out. He started to bleed from scratching the sores so I put a little Neosporin on 2 areas to help with the pain. Can the neosporin interfere with the success of the dip treatment? I know he cannot get wet so I am worried the neosporin may counteract.

I'm so sorry that Boomer is having such a hard time after his dip. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian for a recommendation. Neosporin does not normally help enough to be of benefit, but I do not expect it to cause any problem with the dip. Sometimes we will recommend giving something like Benadryl (https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/) to help with the irritation that some dogs get from killing the mites with a dip. And some dogs will also need to be on an antibiotic because they can develop a skin infection when the mites die. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Boomer feels better soon. Thanks for using PetCoach.
