New home, alone dog: How to ease separation anxiety after moving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 1 year and 2 months old

So my miniature dachshund Maisy is 1 ½ years old and she has always had company of other dogs, practically she has never been left alone for longer than an hour. My partner and I are moving 30 minutes from my parents place so we won’t be able to drop her off to their dogs each day when we go to work for 9-10 hours. What are some suggestions on what we could do to prevent her from stressing about being alone with new surroundings and a different routine, i'm really stressing over it

Maisy is so cute! It may be just fine but here are a few ideas: 1) consider a dog walker/Sitter to come visit once or twice a day to play or walk 2) if work allows, you can start with half days and see how she does 3) there are video camera systems that allow you to see and even talk to your pet when you’re away 4) try treats and toys that take a while such as Kongs with peanut butter inside or chew bones. 5) if you haven’t already, consider crate training, which can actually alleviate anxiety. Best of luck in the new place!
