Could my chihuahua have a bowel obstruction after eating plastic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 25 days old | 6 lbs

Does my dog have a bowel obstruction? He is a six month chihuahua and weights 6 pounds. Two days ago he chewed up my glasses and there is a small part missing. The frames are made of hard plastic. He is not vomiting and he has no diarrhea. Bowl movement are normal but he is urinating more frequently. He started licking his penis a lot and started sitting in a praying position. He eats his dry food but he doesn’t want to drink water.

That praying posture is usually a sign of stomach pain. Since he’s so small and showing signs of discomfort I would bring him in soon for a veterinary exam, abdominal X-ray and urinalysis. If there is a piece of plastic in his stomach it may need to be surgically removed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Toby.
