My pug has a red spot on his cheek. Is it a hotspot? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I think my pug has hotspots on his cheek, however I have never dealt with them before so I wanted to know if that is what it looks like he has, as well as how to treat. Or if I should just bring him in to the vet and have him looked at in person.

It does look like a hot spot, aka moist dermatitis. Ideally, Titus should be examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. He will likely need the area shaved and cleaned. An e-collar (cone). May be needed to prevent scratching or rubbing. Your veterinarian will decide whether to treat topically, systemically or both. Antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications may be dispensed.
