My 10-year-old Golden Lab's testicles are black. Is this normal?

It is not unusual for the scrotum to darken slightly with age, but I agree that this is a marked change. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon to make sure there are no signs of infection or cancer. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

    This could be just normal hyperpigmentation from aging. If the area isn't causing him to lick or be bothered and it doesn't look inflamed or irritated, I would just watch it. If it seems to bother him or is getting worse, I would have your vet take a look to just make sure there isn't any other concerns. I hope this helps!

The picture does not show anything concerning but I would continue to monitor for any sweliing or discomfort which may indicate a painful infection or assymetry which can indicate a tumour. Rapid increase in size can occur with scrotal hernias which although rare are a surgical emergency.

I have a 3 yo male unneutered American bully. I have been observing that color of his scrotum earlier was light pink in color but now it has turned blackish but he is eating , defecating and urinating normally. Is there anything to worry????
Sometimes dogs start to have more pigment in various areas of their skin as they start to age - it's possible that this is just pigment and nothing to be concerned about. If Dollar has been licking the area or if he has had a skin infection on his scrotum this could also lead to black pigment in the skin. I would recommend having your veterinarian take a look when you're able to make an appointment.

Hello! My dog is about 9 months old and I noticed that one of his testicles has a dark spot. He seems to be peeing normally and has normal behavior. Should I be concerned?
Everything in the picture appears normal. the dark spot appears to be normal pigment in the skin of he scrotum. The skin can get more or less pigmented as they age, so this may be why you are just now noticing this. As long as the dark areas are not raised, crusty, or causing any other problems with the skin, then they are not concerning. Considering he is otherwise normal, I would not be concerned about this. We brought our dog back from the groomer Saturday evening and noticed a black patch on his scrotum that we don't think was there before. He hasn't been kicking the area and it doesn't seem to bother him too much. I'm just concerned it might be epidid
From the pictures this looks like normal pigmentation but of course I cannot say hat for sure without doing my own exam. If the skin is smooth, not flakey, and the testicles don’t feel hard or painful then this is likely normal. If there is anything that’s looks abnormal or you aren’t sure then I would have your vet take a peek just to make sure. Epididymitis usually causes a testicle to swell and become hard. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. He will need to see his veterinarian as it is abnormal for the testicles to be so different in size. He may be developing a growth on the larger one. He will likely need to be neutered and the testicle examined under the microscope. You want to ensure that he has developed testicular cancer. He could also have a benign growth, an infection or swelling resulting from a bruise from some sort of trauma. Either way though, he needs to be seen. I hope this information helps!

Hi, yes this is a normal skin change for this area. If you feel the skin, it is also thickened, it is absolutely normal and could be due to the testicles lying on the ground/hard surface on repetitive occasions.

I have 7 month old black Labrador, his testicles seem very red from this morning, there is no swelling neither local rise in temperature. No discharge but when touched he starts to lick the area. What is happening to him?
Many dogs develop redness in the testicles, it's not always considered to be an issue but it could sometimes be a sign of infection or allergic reaction. you should monitor it for a few days, if the problem does not resolve you should probably get it checked by your vet. having him neutered will also solve the problem.

There may a twist in the testicle or a tumor. It is best to see a vet to get him neutered to have those removed. This will minimize any spreading if cancerous and removed any affect portions if they are also infected

My shitso was neutered back in Sept 2015, but all of sudden when I was bathing him today that little left over saggy ball sack has turned completely black
The sac can be on the black side, it's not uncommon, but if it is very black and does not feel relatively smooth and elastic like the rest of the skin, then there might be a problem that will require you to take him to the vet.
