My unneutered cat is losing fur, fighting, and has eye discharge. Is he sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old

My un neutered male cat has been losing fur in small tufts for a while now. He is a year old and i think he has started fighting for his territory with neighbourhood cats. His eyes have been releasing small amounts of pus and scabbing over since before the fights and cuts. He has never seen a vet and i was wondering if he was sick since he acts healthy and his behaviour hasnt changed. But his fur has been coming off for a while and his eyes had improved long ago but stopped improving since.

He needs to be seen by a vet. It sounds like he needs some antibiotics to clear up the pus/wounds. It also sounds like he may have fleas or mange if he is losing his hair. Finally, if he has not been vaccinated he could catch disease like feline AIDS or feline leukemia. He may not be showing any symptoms now but those diseases can show up later. Both of those are transmitted by bite wounds from other cats. If he is fighting with other cats he may contact these diseases. I suggest you get him to a vet for an exam, deworming, vaccinations, antibiotics and something to treat the hairloss depending on what the underlying cause is. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
