Why is my cat meowing constantly and acting distant? Is he in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered

My cat is a little over 2 and his behaviour is changing quite dramatically. He is constantly meowing and no longer likes to come inside much at all. He used to be close to me wherever I went and even though he stills purrs and likes the occasional pat, it's more like he's just tolerating it rather than wanting it. He's still eating and drinking ok, but I'm concerned there could be something else going on health wise.

Poor Guy! He certainly could be in pain or not feeling well. I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to see if he has a fever, pain anywhere, and even run blood work if needed. A lot of outdoor cats will get into things they shouldnt and also can get into fights with other cats or animals and develop abscesses that can be difficult for you to see. I hope this helps and he starts feeling better.
