My dog has a squishy, growing lump near his penis. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 9 months old | 70 lbs

Hey my name is Mason and I have an American pit bull terrier age 5 almost 6 years old and I’ve notice a bump by his genital area I ignored it at first thinking it would go away but a few months later it is massively large and hard to ignore although it doesn’t bother him I am concerned. It isn’t hard or rough but is squishy and feels like fluid is build up. It’s small when he lay down but the same size as his penis when he’s up. It also has lil other bumps on top of that. Can you please help me.

Thank you for providing pictures of Gucci's bump. From the pictures, it looks like it could be a cyst, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Given that the lump is getting bigger, I would have him seen by a vet on Monday. Good luck, I hope this helps!
