My dog is vomiting, lethargic, and doing downward dog. Vet emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 2 years and 11 months old | 72 lbs

My 2 yr old Vizsla/Dobe mix (who loves to eat and is on the excitable side of life) has been vomiting for 24 hrs, slowed in the last 8 of 24, shows no interest in food (very unusual!), shaking in abdomen and rear legs and extreme lethargy, assuming strange “stretching” positions for long periods of time (downward dog for 5+ minutes). He has had Gauirdia in the past, treated, and many bouts of upset stomach. This is very different and concerning. Emergency vet time??!!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Marvin! Sadly I agree! If Marvin is going in the prayer position (downward dog) that indicates abdominal pain. With vomiting that makes me worried about a foreign body or pancreatitis. Very bad gas can cause abdominal pain. I would take him in for X-rays and blood work. I hope this helps and wish Marvin the best!
