Why does my dog growl when leashing and get uneasy near food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

My dog will go to the door to tell me she wants to go outside. Sometimes when I approach her to put her leash and collar on her she growls at me and gets aggressive. She doesn't bite me. Why would she do This? Also when I get up to go to the kitchen sometimes she will run and stand by her food and give me an uneasy look? She is very well taken care of so I don't understand

I would have a trainer come to your home to see exactly what is going on. It may be the way you approach her or it could be something else triggering this. They then can work with you to tell you how to fix it and deal with these situations. Your veterinarian or people in your neighborhood would be the best people to ask who is a good trainer that comes to the house. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
