My dog ate a raw deer bone and seems fine. Does he need emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years old | 50 lbs

Last night my dog was chewing on what appeared to be a raw bone from a leg of a small deer. He has eaten since then and seems to be fine without stomach problems. Do I need to take him to the vet? (it is the weekend so it would be emergency vet)

If he is acting normal and eating well, then I would not take him in yet. You should continue to monitor him for any vomiting or diarrhea, lethargy or decrease in appetite. These are signs of an infection which he may have been exposed to from the bone.
