My puppy threw up worms and won't eat. Is a vet visit urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 25 days old | 8 lbs

I found a stray mixed breed puppy. It looks to be less than two months old and weighs about 7-8 lbs. We have had the puppy for three days and it will not eat and it has slept most of the time. Today it threw up foam and it was all round worms. Can a puppy survive with worms this bad without going to a vet? If it can what needs done for the puppy,

Ideally he should be seen by a vet to stabilise his condition and correct dehydration as well as supplemental feeding and a full health check to rule out additional illnesses reducing his appetite. Consider surrendering him to your local shelter to get him the best care. In the meantime an oral worm dose carefully dosed for his weight from your vets office or pet store, pedialyte and a mousse textured high calorie recovery or puppy food is recommended
