My dog has an open cancer wound. Can I use home remedies on it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 75 lbs

Xena has soft tissue sarcoma high grade. A lump on her leg has open wounds which she has managed to get out part of the cancer through it. Would it help to put anything in the open wound to kill the cancer now its accesible. Such as baking soda paste. Any natural remedies like that? First photo was before she pulled it out. Second is now.

Hello, I am so sorry for you poor Xena, but there is nothing topical that you will have at home that will have any effect on cancer cells. Until you can have her seen by your veterinarian, I would bandage up the leg to prevent further trauma & self-mutilation. You might want to try using Manuka Honey under the dressing to help dry out the lesion & act as a natural antibiotic. Good luck & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
