Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 30 lbs
I had an altercation with a man who left his dog in a car for 10+ hours because the dog breed is not permitted in the apartments he stays in. Given the temp was 62, but no windows were up. The Sheriff said it was fine because it wasn't hot outside. Can a dog really survive in a car for almost 12 hours with no ventilation?

Hello. This is just plain wrong. Even in mild weather, the sun can increase temperatures to dangerous levels. Even if the windows are cracked open a bit. And what about at night? If the temps drop below freezing, how can this poor animal survive? The sheriff is not an animal expert, & in some municipalities, this is a felony. I feel sorry for the dog's owner, he may be just trying to keep his pet, but this is just not in the pet's best interest. If there is a humane society or ASPCA in your area, lodge a complaint with them. I would also call the sheriff's office every time I could document the pet being left in the car for more than a few hours. Good luck & thanks for caring.
