Is a puppy with staph infection safe to bring home with young kids?

Hi, we were all ready to pick up our new Australian Shepard tomorrow, but the owners told us that he had a spot on his skin, took him to the vet and said it was staph infection and gave him antibiotics. I have a 4 and 6 year old and I don't think it is a good idea to still get the puppy, especially after only being on antibiotics for 1 day. Is staph infection a big concern or am I just overreacting? Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

Staph infections on dogs skin are a different type of bacteria compared the staph we get. It is possible to be contagious but very rare and mostly in immunocompromised such as though going through chemo. I think you are safe to still go get the puppy as it will be fixed within a week
