My puppy has a bladder cyst. Is surgery safe for a young dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 15 days old | 2.5 lbs

Names Camie! 5-6month old happy healthy puppy. A doctor had told me I had a cyst near my bladder that caused me to have trouble urinating and spotting. but it must be removed and he says I'm too young to have surgery with high chances of risk of death. My owners would be very sad to know this, and even if they wait for me to mature to endure surgery this cyst will grow and may worsen my situation. Please help my owners with a second opinion so I can live happy with them.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Generally, surgery in small and young patients can be safe if done properly. I think you could consider perhaps evaluation by a board certified surgeon in your area as they generally have an experienced team able to perform more complicated procedures in more delicate patients. Good luck with your precious pup!
