My German Shepherd attacks other dogs. Are there meds for aggression?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

I have a German Shepherd that is sometimes very aggressive towards are other dogs and fights with them so bad that she will cause the other dogs deep wounds. Is there a medication we can put her on that would help. I keep a harness on her and today I put her in a muzzle after she attacked 2 of my other dogs just hours apart for no reason. I love this dog and I do not want to put her down I hope there is something we can do. Thank you

I would recommend a few different things for Annabelle. The first is getting a trainer to come to your home and see what the triggers are for her. That way they can help you learn how to deal with it and hopefully redirect her. There is medication that may help. Understand that it may take multiple medications, multiple trials and it can take time for medication to fully work. Your veterinarian will be able to prescribe medications to see what would be best for her. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
