Why is my dog licking her vaginal area and has these red bumps?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer (duplicate) | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 80 lbs

I noticed my dog licking her vaginal area more frequently lately. I took a look and noticed a red bump, two days later there are now two. I've attached a picture. Any idea on what it might be?

Oh great! The picture worked this time. The picture sure looks like pustules, which is what I was describing in my first answer about pyoderma. However, this is not a diagnosis without a veterinarian seeing the patient and perhaps even sampling the bumps to determine what they are. Transmissible venereal tumors are also possible. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
