Is it normal if my senior dog is so tired after kidney fluid therapy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 13 years and 11 months old | 5.4 lbs

My boy completed 3 sessions of fluid therapy for kidney failure yesterday. The vet called today to let me know how levels have come down a bit which we are happy about. He seems to feel much better but, today he's pretty much just slept alllllll day. Is it normal to expect him to be this tired after the therapy? He was not very active before he got sick either and he is a senior....but, today he is literally just sleeping constantly. Should I be worried?

Hi. This may be normal after spending a lot of time in the hospital. Most pets don't sleep or get as much rest as normal in the hospital. I would monitor tonight, let him rest, and if it is the same tomorrow, I would contact your veterinarian tomorrow. Good luck, and I'm sorry Memi isn't feeling well.
