How to stop an old dog from counter surfing and having accidents?

When my dog does something unwanted such as eat food off the table or poop upstairs what should I do? He is a fairly old dog. I have heard putting them in their kennel is bad. Or making them “look” where the unwanted behavior is , or was shown, is bad. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old

If you can catch them in the act you can startle them with a sound and then redirect behavior. If you find the evidence later then ignore it. If they constantly pull from the counter then you may need to work on training him out of it. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
