My dog's poop is worse on fresh food. Should I stick to kibble?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 17 lbs

I wanted to give my dog 1/2 fresh cooked frozen dog food but her stools are not as good when I do that. She has better stools on just plain kibble. What should I do? The one on the right is when she was just fed kibble. The frozen dog food is 40% protein maybe it's just to rich for her. Her natural balance kibble is 21% protein. She gets the fish formula.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Honestly both stools look fine. I would encourage you to proceed with the diet that Choe prefers. If she likes to have 1/2 of each then that would be good too. If at any point she develops diarrhea then it could be indicated to try something else. Good luck and have a great day!
